Zulte Waregem heeft dan toch nog afscheid genomen van Timothy Derijck. De club kwam tot een akkoord met de 36-jarige verdediger om het lopende contract per direct stop te zetten.

Derijck zat al enkele maanden in de B-kern nadat er zich een akkefietje had voorgedaan na de 2-5 nederlaag tegen RSCA Futures. Voordien was de ervaren centrumverdediger een vaste waarde in de basiself van Zulte Waregem, maar sinds die wedstrijd (waarin Derijck ook vervroegd naar de kant werd gehaald) kwam hij niet meer in actie voor Essevee.

Met Derijck vertrekt er wel een gevestigde waarde aan de Gaverbeek. In totaal speelde de verdediger tussen 2016-2018 en tussen 2022-2024 zo’n 120 wedstrijden voor Zulte Waregem. Daarin scoorde hij 12x. Dit seizoen zat Derijck aan tien duels en één assist.

UPDATE: Inmiddels vond Derijck opnieuw onderdak bij zijn ex-club ADO Den Haag. De verdediger tekende een contract tot het einde van het seizoen. Derijck speelde tussen 2009 en 2011 én tussen 2014 en 2016 meer dan 140 duels voor de Residentieclub.
